LAUNCH OF THE NEW TRANSITION SUPPORT INTERNET AND INTRANET WEBSITES AND AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE TRANSITION HANDBOOK

The Directorate of Transition Support Services (DTSS) has a key role in delivering Defence’s commitment to ensuring that the men and women of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), and their families, are provided with exemplary support services throughout their career, particularly at times of separation. Defence’s commitment is encapsulated in Chief of the Defence Force/Secretary Joint Directive 08/2007—Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force Directive on Support to our Australian Defence Force personnel.

To ensure members and their families receive access to important information Defence has launched two websites:
•an Internet site (http://www.defence.gov.au/transitions/) designed to provide important transition support information and resources directly to ADF members and their families; and
•an Intranet site (http://intranet.defence.gov.au/dsg/sites/DTSS/) designed to provide important transition support information and resources for the use of Transition Support Practitioners and Commanders.

In addition to the two websites DTSS has released the 2009 ADF Transition Handbook. This Handbook is a guide to assist ADF members and their families prepare for separation from the ADF. It is important to acknowledge and plan for the changes that will occur both during, and after separation. The Transition Handbook identifies and provides information on issues that may affect separating ADF members and their families, including Defence requirements and other support services provided by Government agencies and Ex-Service Organisations. The 2009 ADF Transition Handbook is available on the websites listed above and through regional ADF Transition Centres.
