Defence Families of Australia celebrated 25 Years of Representing Families between October and December with a series of events held around Australia.
Defence partners and representatives of support organisations attended events in Townsville, Rockingham (WA), Puckapunyal (Vic), Sydney, Darwin and Canberra.
DFA Patron Liz Cosson congratulated the organisation on reaching its Silver Jubilee on behalf of Defence Personnel Minister Warren Snowdon at the Canberra event held at Duntroon Community Centre on November 24.
DFA's jubilee book Voices: Stories of Defence Families was launched, and the contributions of several family members who were in attendance at the event were noted, including Linda Hurley, the wife of the Chief of the Defence Force, war artist Amber Martin who comissioned her painting "Miss you already" for the book; and parent member Maggie Santilli.
The events were also an opportunity for DFA to thank individuals for their contributions to Defence Families. In Canberra, certificates were presented to Joan Gilbert from the Defence Community Organisation, the outgoing President of the Duntroon Community Centre Samantha Murray and the long-serving Duntroon Community Centre Coordinator Jenny Lean.
Thanks to our sponsors, DFA is giving away free copies of the book to Parents, Partners and Children of currently serving ADF members. Visit www.dfa.org.au/aboutus/silver-jubilee for more information.
