DCO produces new documentary about Deployment

The Defence Community Organisation in partnership with Big Sky Production has produced a new documentary in support of Defence families.

The documentary, entitled Long Tan to Afghanistan, is a powerful, insightful journey into the lives of the soldiers of the Mentoring Taskforce in Afghanistan, their families at home and the heart-wrenching impact of war.

Providing personal and emotional insights from soldiers and their families about operational deployment, the documentary provides a point of comparison between the battle of Long Tan in 1966 and contemporary warfare in Afghanistan through the eyes of veterans, young soldiers, and the families who are left behind.

Michael Callan, Director General of DCO, says that the documentary provides a unique insight into the emotional state of individual soldiers including their fears about their work in Afghanistan.

“Long Tan to Afghanistan examines the emotional investment of partners, family and friends,” he said. “It also looks at how the Defence Community Organisation prepares partners and families for an operational deployment and how it supports the families when the member is away.

“This documentary is a celebration of the strength and courage of the families supporting the men and women who serve Australia’s national interests,” Mr Callan said.

Defence families and Long Tan veterans can obtain a copy of the documentary from their local DCO office.
