Defence Partners need to be aware that a member’s income may vary from year to year according to allowances added, for example, during deployments.
Fluctuations in income and fringe benefits tax may affect government benefits and schemes.

Defence has created a process where partners can be granted access to Privacy Act protected records, such as a member’s pay, for a period of up to 12 months.
The ADF member must complete a Permission to Inquire (Form AD214).
Download Form AD214 here or from Webforms on the Defence Intranet or contact the Defence Service Centre (DSC).
The document can be then sent either by fax to the DSC on 02 6455 1200; scanned and emailed to dsc.bit@defence.gov.au; or mailed to DSC Locked bag 2003, COOMA NSW 2630
The DSC will process all non-urgent requests within 24hrs of receipt. Urgent requests can be processed within 2 hrs of receipt. all urgent requests are to be sent to DSC Buisness Imporvement Team (BIT) DSC.BIT@defence.gov.au and noted as URGENT.
Families can then access pay information by calling 1800 DEFENCE.
