Members may also qualify for a one-off payment to assist them to purchase a home. The home must be in their posting location and they must live in it. This payment is made under the Home Purchase Assistance Scheme (HPAS). It is payable once only.
Reimbursement to the member of the reasonable costs for selling a home and purchasing another home they will live in on the next posting. This assistance is given under the Home Purchase or Sale Expenses Allowance (HPSEA). To qualify for this allowance, members would have received the HPAS payment first.
Amounts paid under this scheme will appear in as income in the member’s pay slip (Salary Variation Advice) and shows that extra tax is withheld. The gross amount will have to be reported as income to all government agencies that require you to report your income to and may affect payments such as Centrelink and Child Support Agency.
