Scouting for ADF Families Program

Scouts Australia has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Defence Families of Australia to help support children of ADF members.

Scouts Australia is generously offering Defence Families:

  • Easier access to the range of scouting activities and programs,
  • Fee waivers on transfer,
  • Comfort in the continuity of a leading and supportive youth development program that is available in almost all communities in Australia, and
  • To bypass any delays to their involvement in Scouting.

Defence Families of Australia encourages Defence Families to take part in the wonderful Scouting movement, recognising that Defence children can bring diversity to local Scout groups and that their Defence Parents can contribute a great range of skills and experience to support youth development activities.

Defence Families face relocation on postings every two to three years. The new partnership forged between Scouts Australia and Defence Families of Australia will help Defence Families by extending programs, including workshops and training for young people and adults, to assist them feel more at home in their new community.

To further support this partnership a new Defence Scouting Badge has been established.

The badge that can be earned by all Scouts, across Australia, has the Tri-service logo. It is hoped the creation of this badge will increase the awareness of Defence and their families to the wider community.

The Badge will bear the words Scouting for ADF families.  This badge can be earned by a Scout who has:

1)     Delivered a presentation on Defence life,

2)     Visited a military base

3)     Completed a project on Defence personnel and peace.
