The Defence Scholarship program previously provided an opportunity for Defence Family Members to travel and live overseas on exchange for a year.
Whilst seen as a positive initiative, due to the requirement for efficiencies, Defence’s sponsorship of eight scholarships will not be continuing for the foreseeable future.
The RAAFWA Educational Patriotic Fund makes financial grants to students on application to assist with the costs of primary, secondary or tertiary education. Eligibility is restricted to Air Force Families where the student's parent or grandparent (living or dead) or other close relative is serving or has served in the Air Force. Grants are made on the basis of financial adversity.

A Defence Technical Scholarship (DTS) is a fantastic opportunity for Year 11 and 12 students, intending to pursue an ADF general entry technical trade career after completing Year 12. The DTS rewards technically-savvy students for staying on at school and enrolling in specific subjects.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) Gap Year will only operate an Army and Navy program in 2012. The Air Force Gap Year program has been suspended.
The ADF Gap Year is highly competitive and is a 1 year contract with no suggestion of ongoing employment. If you are interested in ongoing employment with the ADF, either full-time or part-time, you are encouraged to also apply for other job roles.
