DCO Moving Schools Resources

Education Books have been prepared by the Regional Education Liaison Officers (REDLOS) to provide a brief overview of education in each State and Territory. These books address many issues and questions raised by Defence Families.

There are various resources available from the REDLOs to assist transitions:

  • Changing Schools Checklist
  • The School Passport has been designed for children to keep a record of their school history.
  • The Digital Student Portfoliois an interactive multimedia program designed to capture the academic, sporting and social history of a child over each year of their schooling.
  • Storybooks dealing with moving schools produced under the Defence Kids Helping Defence Kids Program such as Angel Pig and Ollie the Navy Submarine.

Education Tax Refund

The Education Tax Refund may assist as you move schools. Eligible parents, carers, legal guardians and independent students are able to get money back on education expenses. These include items like computers, educational software, textbooks and stationery. You may get 50% of your money back. It now includes school-approved uniforms.
