Education assistance provided by the Defence Community Organisation (DCO) is coordinated by a network of Regional Education Liaison Officers (REDLOs). One REDLO position is located in each State and Territory except in Queensland where there is a REDLO in South Queensland and one in North Queensland.
The REDLO is a professional educator who provides educational support and advice to all ADF families with dependant pre-school, primary and secondary school aged children.
The REDLO is an experienced teacher, who is extremely knowledgeable about the education systems – private and public – in their own State or Territory, and fully conversant with education systems in other States and Territories.
REDLOs provide limited advice to members and their families posting to an overseas location or completing a lateral transfer from a foreign defence force. Certain REDLOs have developed a specialisation in particular overseas schooling systems. Contact your local REDLO to find out which officer is best suited to give your family advice in this area.
The REDLOs are a unique group that possess a total perspective of education nationally, and as a result of this, key education bodies seek advice and comment from this group on the development of future educational changes.
There are two main assistance schemes administered by REDLOs. Learn more about:
DCO Education Assistance Scheme (EAS)
Defence School Transition Aide Program (DSTAs)
