    Defence Families of Australia has been assisting Defence Families affected by the recent floods, cyclones and severe storms in Queensland, Victoria and Northern Territory.

    Delegates have been directing families to DCO, Defence Housing Australia, Toll Transitions and Defence Relocation and Housing Managers on various issues including flood damage to Service Residences, damaged Rent Assistance properties, emergency accommodation and delayed removals.

    A 2-hour program providing strategies and ideas for parents to help their children under 6 years to cope with their parents absence on deployment.

    The Defence Community & Recreation Centre in Cairns has launched a new Monday morning session - Bellies and Bubs.

    Come along for a cuppa, support or just a bit of adult conversation.

    Meet other expectant mums and new parents and make new friends in a casual, supportive and friendly environment.

    Cost: $2 per week - tea, coffee and biscuits provided.

  • Toll Transitions Supports Relocating ADF Members Affected by Queensland Natural Disasters

    The recent floods and cyclone in Queensland have caused considerable disruption to Defence members and families at a time when many were relocating in the peak posting cycle. The major impact has been delayed deliveries of furniture and effects (F&E) resulting in families requiring temporary accommodation for extended periods.  Unfortunately there have also been a number of members whose furniture and effects were badly damaged or destroyed.

    Update from Defence Housing Australia

    With parts of Queensland now in recovery mode and other areas of the country still in danger of flooding, Defence families across the country are feeling the impact.

    In Queensland we were fortunate to have only a small number of DHA properties inundated with substantial water damage, however a number of families in Rent Allowance accommodation and who own their own homes have also been affected; we are providing support and assistance to these families.

    In the first instance, members and families should comply with the directions of local authorities on evacuation, and place the highest priority on their personal safety. Calls for Emergency Assistance should be directed to the emergency authorities, such as the SES on 132 500.
